hope you are all having a good start to a holiday weekend. it's a quiet morning here, and to be honest i'm currently watching the smurfs while typing this. i'm such a sucker for old cartoons. i hope this weekend sees me getting lots of work done but also lots of outside time, perhaps some easter-y baking, and maybe even an egg hunt (i'm also a total sucker for egg-shaped chocolate).

please click through the links and give the photographers in my little mosaic some love!

sending peace to you on this remembrance day.

the air was mild and the skies mostly clear as we stood at the cenotaph, joining a large group of others in the ceremonies. there was something in the air though, and dark clouds began moving in with the swiftness of the north wind as the ceremonies came to a close. A and i walked around the corner to get a hot drink, and while waiting for them to fill our travel mugs, saw the hail storm start outside. very nice of mother nature to wait until after the crowds had dispersed. we rushed back to the car and drove home through a mix of hail, rain and slush. it is not raining here at home but the northwest wind has blown in with strong gusts creaking at the trees. i'm feeling a bit on edge because of it. our prevailing wind, especially at this time of year, is the southeaster. maker of heavy rains and howling winds, and generally milder temps. but we're used to it, and so are the trees, for the most part. when a strong northwesterly comes in, the temperatures drop, and the tall trees get pushed in the opposite direction, one they're not used to. this is when they come down. we've already heard one good crack from outside, and i tense up each time a gust comes through the yard and bends the long cedar branches outside the window. there won't be any walks in the woods today.

if the rain does't set in, there might need to be a bundled up beach walk though - do you see that north wind sunset photo above? taken just south of here. the north wind definitely has some beautiful benefits that are not seen when a southeaster rain storm is blowing through.

wishing you a peaceful and warm november friday.

hope these lovely shots inspire you to do a little autumn exploring this weekend, a breath of fresh air and a little admiration of nature as it continues to close up shop for winter. in exciting news, my new mac arrived yesterday, so i promise there will be new original content this weekend! i know! just need to finish installing all my software so i can sort through my raw photo files and share some of my life in the last week or so. several walks in forest and at the beach, including one where i brought a pod of whales along; some birthday crafting for my favourite little girl; lots of birds at the feeder, and some new stitching for the shop. i hope you'll come back tomorrow!

sorry i've been mostly quiet this week. i have a few new stitched creatures to share (and update the shop with!) but the light has been miserable this week for photographs (dark sooner, plus rain). canadian thanksgiving is this weekend and i've got some events planned with friends, but i do plan to put quite a few things into the shop tomorrow. i'll be adding the last two natural dyed urchins plus a few swimmers. if there is anything in particular you are hoping for as you get into gift planning for the upcoming season, please send me an email at fogandswell [at] gmail [dot] com.

i'd also like to share my pieces that will be appearing in the plush you show starting next friday! in the next few days, i promise. just a reminder that i will also be heading to Seattle for the opening, so I hope to see you there if you live in the area. part of our plans for this weekend involve heading up into the mountains as well, not camping but staying in a cosy chalet with a group. i hope to get out with my camera for a hike and capture autumn in the alpine, always a favourite of mine.

wishing you all a happy weekend, whether you have a long one for thanksgiving or not. last night i started stitching on something completely new, and actually in a similar colour scheme as is seen above. trying some things to combine natural dyed fabrics and other natural materials. i hope it will be worthy to share soon.

it's been a mostly beautiful week here, but the weekend forecast is looking a bit damp. i'm just fine with that - i have no specific plans and will take what is given to us. next weekend we are headed to the west coast, just the two of us; a bit of camping and surfing and raincoast exploration. soon after it will be the beginning of september (wow, already?) and we are headed to the eastern side of the cascades in washington. and other obligations and preparations are starting to appear. so a quiet weekend sounds just fine to me. what are you up to?

friday flickr faves: the blues

friday flickr faves

back for another friday sharing some flickr love. it is unrepentantly pouring this morning, feels awfully gloomy for late may. while i like to make mosaics on a bit of a colour theme, this one definitely found a bit of a subject focus as well - a lot of ocean with several touches of birds/feathers too.

hope you're heading into a good weekend. i suppose it is a long one in the states - up here in canada we had our long weekend last week. i have been playing around with a bit of dyeing (yay!) this week so will be back here to share. if it continues to rain, i can see i may be tucked up doing a fair bit of stitching too...
